Where have all the farms gone?

Nearly 5 million small farms were lost since 1935 when there were nearly 7 million small farms.

Today the average American farmer is nearly 60 years old, and twice as many farmers are over 70 as are under 30. The U.S. will need to create 100,000 new farmers in the next five years. Illinois will need 2,000 by 2020.

Consider getting involved with the DeKalb County Farmland Foundation, and help preserve farmland and support local foods.
